It was Handscomb who instigated the attack on Bairstow at a pivotal moment of the Gabba Test, by asking whether he had headbutted Bancroft, before others, including David Warner, joined in. It has been for a long time and it will continue to be. It was only on the fourth day when they became more vocal, now they are up they are going to keep coming at us. But it is up to us individually and as a group to stick together and know that we are not just here to roll over. Comparisons were made to Mumford And Sons, as the posh folkies invaded the States, but The Lumineers are less imposing and weighty than their English counterparts; theirs is an authentic rootsy sound that echoes two hundred years of American music.
The trio started life as a duo – Wes and multi-instrumentalist Jeremiah Fraites – who, having both unsuccessfully pursued other options, came together in to collaborate, and faced a long journey of self-discovery and co-operation. That took two or three years before we started writing things that had an identity. It was kinda trying everything and anything was accepted. Yet their sound was incomplete – they heard what they missed and they knew what they wanted: The line-up complete, their sound strengthened and their commitment obvious, the trio embarked on a DIY tour that saw them literally taking their music into the homes of fans, playing house shows across the country and making new friends, contacts and converts along the way.

Written by Denham Sadler on Mar 29, A fortunate crowd were treated to a warm and engaging performance by The Lumineers in the familiar surrounds of The Corner Hotel last week. The connection was obvious between the pair, and accompanied by just guitar and at times a stomp box and melodica, the sparse backing allowed the enchanting vocals to shine. Joined by two extra, now full-time members on bass and keys, the line up created a more layered and full sound compared to the album. But for me, I didn’t really take it seriously because I stopped taking seriously this sort of lack of anything happening, as though that was some indicator of we weren’t doing good things before anything broke. I just like the idea of keeping your own score of your life and the things that you’re doing in it– and not turning to some external keeper of that.
Songs like ‘Ho Hey’ and ‘Stubborn Love,’ they really gave us the keys to the world. They allowed us to tour to foreign countries and allowed us to shine light on the rest of the songs off that album. We would stick it second or third of every set eventually because we had a whole album that we were proud of and connected with. I felt like, if that’s what you’re here for, then here, I’ll make it easy for you. Then you can leave after that or you can stay and see what else is on this record.
